History The Frederick County Court House, in Winchester Va was built in 1840 and was used as a prison and hospital during the Civil War.

Court house, 
20 North Loudoun Street, 
in the Old Town 
Walking Mall.

Museum Hours Wednesday through  Saturday:    10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Sunday:                1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Monday & Tuesday, closed, opening by special appointment only.

HOLIDAYS - The museum is closed the following holidays:
Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas, New Year's Day
Admission
$5 per adult (18 and over); $3.00 per children 5-17; Children 4 and under are free
$3 per person for groups of 10 of more persons
Discount for Seniors (65 and older); military (retired and active duty); college students; and AAA - all must have ids to get discount

A Gathering of Eagles
June 6, & 8, 2008
The "Civil War Gathering of Eagles" is an educational event brought to life by living historians from across the country. The Civil War personas, discuss the events of the war brought to life through their first person portrayals.  Issues discussed during this two and a half day event range from the tactics used to the causes of the War and the occasional heated discussion concerning the legality of secession based on the Constitution and other sources used by our Founding Fathers to establish the "united States of America". 
Events included
:
Ladies Tea, Ladies Fashion Show, Flag Presentation,
Court Case:  Commonwealth of Virginia v. United States of America;
Presentations by the Generals.

Research, soldier grafitti The courthouse was used to house prisoners, sick & wounded, and others.  Many soldiers wrote their names on the walls.  Help is needed to research some of these names.  In addition the museum collection includes personal artifacts found on the battlefield and attributed to individuals.  If you are a descendent of any of these people or have information about these soldiers, we would love to hear from you

The Ridgeway Civil War Archive:

The Ridgeway Archive is a research record of various examples of Civil War artifacts authenticated, photographed and documented by Harry Ridgeway, including many of the artifacts included in the museum collection.  This is a research venue that is being developed, only a couple hundred artifacts are included at the moment, but it is the intention for this research venue to expand significantly in the next couple of years, so please come back and visit again.
