Location: From NE corner go south 42inches, up 30 inches (Picture quality good)
August 17, 1864, was part of the actions and counter actions in the Shenandoah Valley as Early’s forces engaged Sheridan. CW data base reports that the regiment assisted to hold the hole of Early’s army in check for a period of six hours. The regiment not only lost considerably in killed and wounded, but also in prisoners, losing 115 men that day. This is one of the lesser known actions around Winchester, but was a major engagement for this regiment
