Research File # 07 Henry A Jones 5th US Cavalry, Co F (alias Henry A Powell)

The 5th US Cavalry participated in the 1864 campaign, At the end of the war it was assigned provost and guard duty headquartered in Washington (verify this) Mr Jones enlisted October 10, 1865 and was discharged April 25, 1868. He deserted January 21, 1866 and rejoined from desertion April 30, 1866. He was confined March 1, 1866 and sentenced April 29, 1866. He is shown as having had numerous illnesses and was in the post hospital at Winchester at various times during late 1865 and 1866. It is not clear whether he was in the courthouse as a prisoner or as sickbay, it could have been either.
Military Record: there is no military record for US regulars, soldiers records are found only in the regimental logs which I have not examined yet
