The 214th Pennsylvania was organized March 1865 and was assigned Guard and provost duty in the Shenandoah Valley. This soldier enlisted March 22, 1865. Discharged May 17, 1866, absent sick in Lancaster Pa. There is nothing in this soldiers records indicating problems with him, so we conclude he was a provost guard and took quarters in the courthouse. Inscription on the wall is very clear and match is 100% so it is relatively certain this is the correct soldier.
