Old Court House
Civil War Museum

 Winchester, Virginia

Research File 10:         George Busch 214th Pennsylvania Infantry, Co I

Inscription:     "Geo Busch Jr / I 214 Penna vol / June 1st / 65"

Location: From NW corner go east inches, up inches (Picture good)

The 214th Pennsylvania was organized March 1865 and was assigned Guard and provost duty in the Shenandoah. This soldier deserted 8/14/65. He was tried in military court for stealing money from a house. (need to look into this further) However it appears that his time in the courthouse was while in good standing as a provost guard. Note that the style and handwriting is very similar to the Thomas Gault inscription. Probably the same guy wrote them both and at the same time.

Military Record: Yes

Pension Record: Yes Application Widow 599969
