Research File # 11             6th Regiment Heavy Artillery, New York (Not confirmed)

Inscription: "artistic design of a battle flag or logo depicting a bee or bird / 6 Artillery /?Y???? / Vol??? /Above the logo VOL Arty 186?" / in addition there may be names of battles or persons, illegible above

Location: From NE corner go south 53 inches, up 38 inches (Picture good)

The 6th NY Heavy Artillery was at Wapping Heights on July 23, 1863, which is the campaign that seems to have bagged most of these Federal prisoners. It appears we have matches on the other two names also associated with this unit. Now we need to find out more about this unit and see if we can find any surviving battle flags or other reunion materials that may depict that bird or bee or whatever it is. Perhaps somebody out there has studied 6th Heavy Artillery New York.
