Location: This is a brass ID disc found by Steve Baker near Middleway, Va. which is near Summit Va.

The 1st New York Veteran Cavalry was mustered in on October 10, 1863. It served actively in the 1864 campaign. It operated Leetown and Martinsburg July 2, 1863. Best I can tell this was a one day camp and Mr Lucas simply lost his ID badge

Civil War Database confirms he enlisted 8/26/63, mustered in 10/10/63, mustered out 7/20/65.
