Research File 46: William E Dwyer 1st Maryland Infantry , Co A (Probable)
Inscription: "William E Dwyer"
Location: north of front door, first level narrow strip beside elevator (Picture???
Civil War Database indicates he was captured 5/23/62 Front Royal, Va This was Jackson’s pursuit of Banks that resulted in First Winchester. Jackson was held up in his chase by a holding action at Riverton near Front Royal. It appears this soldier along with others were captured during that action, about 500 of them were crammed into the courthouse. There is a possible discrepancy with the middle initial. This one may never be proven certain because the name is listed but no unit is listed. Other checks of William Dwyer do not seem probable. My opinion is that this is the soldier.
Military Record: Yes, confirms capture Front Royal May 23, 1862
